Red Squirrel

The red squirrel is a small mammal with a body length of between 20 to 28 centimetres. It may be recognised by its orange-red fur, tufted ear tips and bushy tail. This fur is usually at its reddest in the breeding season. The squirrel is both a shy and inquisitive creature. It will avoid meeting humans however that said it is disturbed, it will spend as much time looking at the human (albeit from a safe distance) as the human will spend looks at the squirrel. Look out for chewed Sitka and Norway spruce cones, which are a good sign that red squirrels are present.
