Our Diaspora
Tom Seale
Gerry Trappe and other members of the Trappe family visited Woodlawn on Wednesday April 13, 2022. They were shown around the area by Tom Seale, Woodlawn Heritage Group. The Trappe family returned to the area on holiday from England. Gerry is originally from Ballinasloe.
Butlers Boy
Gerry worked in Woodlawn House as a Butlers boy for Dereck Le Poer Trench in the early fifties. He remembered Martin Barry , Tom Earls, Mr. Faulkner the Land Steward and Mrs. Carroll the Housekeeper. One of his duties was to walk down the Castle Avenue and collect the Times Newspaper for Dereck Le Poer Trench at May Craigs Cafe. Any creases in it and it had to be ironed before being sent upstairs.
Diaspora Visit
The visit brought back a lot of memories for Gerry and he was delighted to have a look around Woodlawn. Woodlawn Heritage Group are delighted with the family for sharing their story.
