Jay
Scréachóg
Catherine Seale
Like its Irish name, you are more likely to hear the screech (almost that of a pig squealing) than see one. This is because Jays are secretive birds which tend to avoid coming into the path of human. If you do see one however you are in for a treat as they are a rather pretty bird. They are about the size of a jackdaw. The overall appearance is of a pinkish cream bird, which turns black towards the tail. They have a kingfisher blue patch on their wing and piercing blue-grey eyes.
