Head Gardner & Gardeners House

The picture attached shows my Grandfather, John Storie Laurie, D.O.B 01.04.1879,

as Head Gardner, and his wife Elizabeth Jane Laurie, nee Black, D.O.B 18.11.1884.

They were married on 20^th August 1907 in Ballinasloe.   John was born in Hunslet,

near Leeds in Yorkshire.  Elizabeth was born in Ahascragh In Co. Galway.

John’s father James George Thompson Laurie, ended his career as

Head Gardner at Murthly Castle Perthshire.    Elizabeth’s father lived and worked

In Ahascragh as a painter and decorator.   John, at some time before 1907 but after 1901

he was employed at Woodlawn Estate.     At some time between 1911 and 1915 they left Woodlawn

and moved to Magheragall,  Lisburn, Co Antrim to become a farmer where my mother

Elizabeth Selkirk Laurie was born on 01.10.1915
