Trench Mausoleum 2025 Heritage Walk
On a beautiful August afternoon with a large gathering and our first call to visit the Arch Entrance known as the Gateway to Heaven followed by a walk to the Trench Burial Ground Mausoleum.
Tom Seale gave background history to the Folly and the Mausoleum buildings. Celsius Sheridan gave in-depth details of the Tomb of Frederick 1st Baron Ashtown and the Graves of other Trench family members buried in the Mausoleum. Celsius highlighted the Plaques erected on the walls of Mausoleum in memory of Trench family descendants, now deceased but buried elsewhere.
The day concluded with a visit to the Church of Ireland and Woodlawn Burial Ground where refreshments were held. The Seale Family generously displayed memorabilia from the Ashtown’s including personal effects, Family Tree Book, Book of Poetry by Lord Ashtown, Framed display of the Architect drawings of the Church.. One family associated with the Church of Ireland lived in Fohenagh. As regular church goers, they had their own Pew, affectionately known as Johnston’s Pew. Here we displayed a Photo Album of remarkable hand made lace, crochet & tapestry by kind permission of Valerie Thornton.
