MONAVEEN The Royal Connection

In 1949 Peter Cazalet, a British Horse Trainer & jockey bought a horse called Monaveen for the Royals through an agent from James (Jim) Raftery of Monaveen who earlier had bought the horse as a yearling at the sales and duly named the horse Monaveen.  This was the first racehorse that the Queen Mother and her daughter Queen Elizabeth II were to own……………….

Attached find a detailed story by Peter Raftery (formally of Monaveen Woodlawn) of the famous horse that takes its name from a local townland.   Monaveen was to bring racing success and joy to the Princess at the tim.   Sadly after a tragic racing injury the horse had to be put down.  There is a Monaveen Box located at Aintree Racecourse which is situated within the hospitality area of the Queen Mothers Stand.
