Elephant Hawk Moth

Although not technically a butterfly, we had to include this beautiful moth which was spotted in Woodlawn Woods. They are common throughout the country, and live in rough grassland, forestry clearings, hedges and gardens. Its larvae is often found on rosebay willowherb. Its wingspan measures 45-60mm and it can be spotted from May to August.
