Speckled Wood
B. Doherty 2019

Thank you Siobhán for spotting this beautiful speckled wood. It may be confused with meadow brown. This butterfly is brown with cream spotting. It has large haloed eyes toward the rear of its upperhind wing. As its name suggests it is often found in partially shaded woodland.
