2024 Ballymacward Primary School Jubilee Celebration

Celebrations commenced with Mass con-celebrated by Fr Ray Sweeny (Parish Priest) Bishop Emeritus John Kirby (former parish priest of Ballymacward Gurteen), Fr Gerry Sweeney (retired parish priest) and Fr Frank McGrath. Maura Hardiman School Principal welcomed everyone and gave an informative address including humorous stories from the school over the years. The official ceremony was followed by refreshments and entertainment in the school giving everyone a chance to look at old roll books, photographs and meet old friends and colleagues.

1974 Ballymacward Primary School opened

Three local schools: Esker, Garafine and Liscune were amalgamated to this state of the art facility with great excitement. It was aptly described in the Connaught Tribune at the time as a ‘New Dawn for the children of the area’.
