1st Lord Ashtown
Restoration of Painting
Roderick Ashtown
The First Lord Ashtown (1755 – 1840) was MP for Portarlington in the Irish Parliament. He was created Lord Ashtown at the end of 1800.
These pictures were taken before and after restoration of the artwork. The restoration work on the portrait took just under a year.
Sir Thomas Lawrence
The restorer is convinced that the portrait was painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769 – 1830). Lawrence was a leading British portrait painter of the early 19th century, portraying most of the important personalities of the day in this polished and flattering style.
